For 4000 years Norwegians have used some sort of skis to transport them selves on the snow. That the modern ski-sport had its origin in Morgedal in the 1800’s is common knowledge.

In Morgedal you can experience ski history – also without skis on your feet. Here you may experience a powerful journey through 4000years of ski history through a multimedia program combining a film over several screens with exhibitions, music and light and sound effects.

A workshop shows you how skis were made in the early days. One of Norway’s first ski wax factories is rebuilt with lots of authentic details.
The Telemark researching has made a report where they conclude that the special story of Morgedal as the ski-sport’s birthplace represents a unique and exiting starting point for development.
In the fall of 2006, Morgedal development AS was established with 40 local shareholders. The background is the increasing “pilgrim trip”, where the search for the original is a growing part of the international tourism.
Morgedal development are starting the work on making Morgedal, the origin of the ski-sport, the worlds most attractive destination for ski-enthusiasts.
