La napoule – the capital of the Mimosa
Some places you consider a crossroad and drive right through. La Napoule on the French Riviera may be a place like that. With the film festival and Cannes as the nearest neighbour, just as far from the modern Monte Carlo as the celebrity playground St. Tropez and surrounded by pearls like St Paul, Vence and Mougis, lies La Napoule. It may be hard to notice, but you should not pass it.

Great Travel - travel, golf, adventure, dining, etc.

La Napoule is a small village with its 18 000 inhabitants, but it has a lot to offer. From the esplanade the town reaches backwards between La Siagne and the small pointy mountain top San Peyre, and the small pink houses with the brick roofs and blooming gardens, and the narrow streets and steep stairs goes far up the mountain side. The city centre is the area around the small market on the other side of the rails, and along the beginning of Rue du 23 Aout, which is named after the day La Napoule was liberated during the 2nd world war. Here is the butcher, the confectionery with the delicious baguettes, the colonial store and the fruit store. And also the small pavement café where it is nice to have a morning coffee – maybe after a visit to the small market on the other side of the street which is held every Thursday.

60 Restaurants
At the start of Rue du 23 Aout lays the lusty Le Neapolis where you sit under the trees with a perfect view of the fireworks down by the castle on the national day the 14th of July. Down on the square, with the fountain, lies the small restaurants side by side, with the restaurant Le Papounet as the most popular. Down at the beach by the marina lies Le Boucanier with a great view of the caste, which is the closest neighbour.
There is actually 60 restaurants in little La Napoule, where 9 is considered gourmet restaurants, with L’Oasis as the best with two stars in the Michelin Guide.
A lot of tradition
The town lies in the middle of the Mimosa district and it is a stunning yellow sight in February and March. They have parades with impressive flower floats and concerts when they greet the beautiful flower through the mimosa festival. A tradition that has existed since 1931.
The Maritime
The marina is considered the larges at the French Riviera. There are six ports with room for 4600 boats; here you also find the only dry port of the Riviera with room for about 700 boats. With this much focus on boats it is only natural that La Napoule hosts a large boat convention each year. They town is a nautical centre where you may rent sailboats, motorboats and jet ski’s, you may rent scuba equipment, water ski, snorkel, kite, fish or spend hours on the beach.
There are also lots to do on land. La Napoule literally lies by the foot of the Estrel Mountains. It only takes a few minutes to dive to the entrance and you have 400km of hiking treks to enjoy.
If you’d like to travel a bit the train stops in La Napoule, and there are boat connections to Cannes and St. Tropez. Yes, La Napoule is a nice and central little crossroad, full of culture, nature and food culture, with short distances to other beautiful French cities like Mougins, Antibes, St Paul, Biot and Vence, to name a few.
