Yvonne Dengin, Great’s garden designer, has many tips to enhance the welfare and experience in your garden.
When the spring work is done and the summer is here it is mostly cosmetic work left. Plant support is important because many plants grow big and starts to hang. When it rains they might break. The support should be as invisible as possible. You may use a string or a tape.

Life and water
With a cat in the garden it is good that the bird house is up high, it can also be very decorative and it draws birds to the garden, which creates life and motion. The birds also help getting rid of harmful insects. The nice insects like bees, bumble bees and butterflies gives lovely summer sounds and can be drawn to your garden by planting the right flowers.
An other element you can work on is creating a water mirror, because water creates a nice atmosphere in a garden, but make sure the bottom is dark or you won’t have the mirror effect. You can paint the barrel inside or put black stones at the bottom to reflect the sky.

Exiting lighting
Summer nights are light and we don’t consider the need for lighting before we really need it. If you wish to create a nice atmosphere with lights in your garden in the fall, you should do something about it now. Digging, drawing cables and if necessary founding. And in the late summer you will create a nice, discreet mood through lighting. If you also have planted flowers that bloom in fall, or bushes with berries and fall colours, you can enjoy your garden all the way to October. And if you have created and exiting shape, with wintergreen bushes and sculptural trees, the garden will also look exiting when the snow comes. Think about that when you are decorating your garden this summer. Then you can enjoy your garden all year around.
